No, everything is not in moderation. Everything does not cause cancer, but many products that people consume on a daily basis are carcinogenic, casein being the leading culprit. For people in tenuous health situations, consuming even just one day of junk might provoke something serious like a heart failure exacerbation. However, this question really is behavioral in nature, not necessarily a nutritional one. Start by eliminating all animal products and minimizing pure fats and sweeteners. Do not beat yourself up if you fall off track for we are all only human and it is hard to battle a rationalizing brain, but do not tell yourself it is alright to give in once a week. A lot of damage can still take place 52 days of the year and our brain is going to take us further down a slippery slope as soon as we start negotiating for “little” indulgences time to time. It is tricky when dealing with the outside world but in your home shoot for 100% compliance. Make it a lifestyle, it will become habit. Do not subside to psychological temptations. Listen to your body, it will become easy, and your body will forever thank you. In April of 2007, Lewis Kuller, MD from the University of Pittsburgh declared, "All males 65+ and all females 70+, who have been exposed to the traditional western diet have cardiovascular disease and should be treated as such".
If you are eating a whole food plant based diet, you are consuming all the nutrients and vitamins you need naturally. All parts of a plant work together and by extracting and isolating certain components, you are consuming an excessive amount of the recommended daily value and may actually be causing adverse effects. With that being said, a modern day plant based diet does lack B-12. Although a lot of cereals, milks, and plant based products are fortified with B-12, we still recommend taking a daily vegan multi vitamins for the sole purpose of B-12 intake.
